There comes a time in our lives when we look back at our childhood and wonder where all the time has gone. We realize how long ago our childhood was and some of the cartoons we grew up on. We grew up with some of the best-animated shows that shaped our childhood and helped us to become the people that we are today. The older cartoons had so much interesting and quality content and were energetic, encouraging, and full of creativity.

Adventures Of The Gummi Bears

The Adventures of the Gummi Bears was a cartoon series that aired from 1985 until 1991. It was Walt Disney Television's first animated production. There were a total of ninety-five episodes over four seasons, and reruns have been shown since.

It's most known for the gummi berry juice, a type of magic potion granting the bears the ability to bounce away from their foes. When the juice was given to humans, it granted them superhuman strength. The bears live in a hollow tree with a vast complex of tunnels and rooms, and they harvest the wild gummi berries to produce the powerful juice.

The Woody Woodpecker Show

The Woody Woodpecker Show is a cartoon about the escapades of Woody Woodpecker and other characters. The cartoon was named the eighty-eighth best-animated series by IGN. The show debuted in 1957 on ABC and was on once a week on Thursday afternoons.

The thirty-minute cartoon aired until 1966 and then reappeared in 1970 with twenty-six additional episodes, running until 1972. After that, several stations continued to air the cartoon for the next several years.

Oswald

Oswald is an animated cartoon produced by HIT Entertainment and Nickelodeon. The cartoon first aired in 2001 and only ran for one season, with twenty-six episodes. Oswald was the main character, and he lived in an apartment complex with Henry the Penguin and several other animals.

Oswald is a gentle, big-hearted, and polite blue octopus who goes out of his way to help his friends, and his favorite things to do are playing the piano and singing. The cartoon was created by Dan Yaccarino.

A Pup Named Scooby-Doo

A Pup Named Scooby-Doo is an animated mystery comedy cartoon and was part of the Scooby-Doo franchise. The show depicts younger versions of the characters, and it premiered in 1988, running for four seasons with twenty-seven episodes.

The show made the older cartoon characters younger to elementary-aged kids, and they solved supernatural-based mysteries in the town of Coolsville. Freddy, Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Scooby-Doo get themselves into all sorts of sunny situations.

Looney Toons

Looney Toons is an animated short film series by Warner Bros., and it aired from 1930 until 1969. The series introduced several characters such as Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Wile E. Coyote, Elmer Fudd, the Road Runner, Tweety, and many more.

The cartoon began in black and white but moved to color production in the early 1940s and became a worldwide media franchise. In addition, several of the characters have made cameo appearances in other television shows and films. Several Looney Tunes films have been ranked among the greatest animated cartoons of all time.

Dragon Tales

Dragon Tales is an animated children's cartoon that aired from 1999 until 2005. There were a total of three seasons and ninety-four episodes. The story of the show follows the adventures of two ordinary kids, Max and Emmy, and their dragon friends Ord, Zak, Cassie, Quetzal, and Wheezie.

The kids would travel to Dragon Land and help their dragons with their daily problems, help them fulfill particular quests, and would learn important morals while helping their friends. The cartoon had an educational focus and received several award nominations and wins.

Johnny Bravo

Johnny Bravo is an animated cartoon that aired from 1997 until 2004 on the Cartoon Network. The main character, Johnny, is somewhat based on Elvis Presley, and he is a muscular young man who lives with his mother and tries to get women to date him.

Johnny Bravo almost always ends up in strange situations and predicaments while sometimes accompanied by celebrity guest characters. The cartoon series helped launch the careers of several animators and was nominated for one YoungStar Award, four Annie Awards, and two Golden Reel Awards.

Popeye The Sailor

Popeye the Sailor was an animated cartoon that aired from 1960 until 1963, with two hundred and twenty episodes. Originally, a series of short films were produced and featured the characters Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Bluto.

GI Joe: A Real American Hero

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero is an animated half-hour series based on the toy line from Hasbro; the cartoon aired from 1983 until 1986. There were two seasons and ninety-five episodes, and the series was produced following the popularity of the commercials used to promote the comic book series.

The storyline centers around the M.A.S.S. Device, which is a powerful matter-transporter, G.I. Joe, and Cobra's race to acquire the three catalytic elements to power the machine.

Duck Tales

Duck Tales is an animated cartoon about the adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his fun-loving great-nephews, Dewey, Huey, and Louie. They hunt the world for treasure together and protect Scrooge's fortune from thieves.

The original cartoon premiered in 1987 and ran until 1990, airing for four seasons and one hundred episodes. It was the first series Disney cartoon to be produced for weekday syndication. There was a brief rebooted series in 2017.

Babar

Babar is an animated cartoon in Canada that premiered in 1989 and ran for five seasons. The cartoon was based on the original Babar books and was broadcast in thirty languages in over one hundred and fifty countries.

In the main storyline, Babar is a young elephant that gets traumatized by seeing his mother killed by a hunter but a kind old lady adopts him and teaches him the ways of human life. He often works with the other animals in the jungle to ensure the safety of all.

Teen Titans

The original Teen Titans cartoon premiered in 2003 and ran for five seasons. The animated show had a great design and style, a great cast of characters, and was perfectly blended with action, drama, and comedy.

It is a superhero television series and one of Cartoon Network's most acclaimed series. The characters maintain their superhero identities at all times. The series spawned a spin-off called Teen Titans Go!; but it just wasn't like the original.

Hammerman

Hammerman was an animated cartoon that aired in the fall of 1991 and aired for thirteen episodes. The main character Stanely Burrell owns a pair of magical dancing shoes that transform him into the superhero Hammerman.

Hammerman wears MC Hammer's signature purple pants and myriad golden chains. The cartoon was hosted by MC Hammer, and he would speak to the audience when Hammerman faced various social issues and provide methods to address these issues themselves.

Paddington Bear

Paddington Bear is an animated children's cartoon that aired from 1976 until 1980. The series was based on the Paddington Bear books and was scripted by Michael Bond, the Paddington Bear book author himself.

The show is animated in stop motion, and Paddington is a puppet, while the other characters are paper cut-outs. There was a sequel titled The Adventures of Paddington that followed and ran from 1979 until 1980.

Kim Possible

Kim Possible is an animated cartoon that aired from 2002 until 2007 for four seasons and eighty-seven episodes. Kim Possible is a cheerleader who saves the world alongside her best friend Ron Stoppable and his mole rat Rufus. They also get help from a ten-year-old computer genius Wade.

Most of their missions require them to destroy the evil plans of the mad scientist-supervillain duo Dr. Drakken and his sidekick Shego. The series was Disney Channel's second animated series and the first one to be produced exclusively by Walt Disney Television Animation.

Hey Arnold!

Hey Arnold is an animated comedy cartoon series that premiered on Nickelodeon in 1996 and aired until 2004. The storyline focuses on a fourth grader named Arnold, who lives with his grandparents in an inner-city tenement.

He navigates urban life while also dealing with the problems that he and his friends encounter. There was a feature film released in 2002 based on the cartoon series titled Hey Arnold!: The Movie.

The Pink Panther Show

The original story is of a child, Princess Dala, that receives a gift from her father. The gift is the largest pink diamond in the world that has a huge flaw. When you look deeply into the stone, you can see a leaping pink panther.

Doug

Doug is an animated cartoon series that premiered in 1991 and aired until 1999, running for seven seasons and one hundred and seventeen episodes. The cartoon focuses on the life of Douglas "Doug" Funnie; Doug experiences common predicaments while attending school in his new town of Bluffington.

He narrates the stories in his journal, and the show addresses several topics such as trying to fit in, relationships, self-esteem, rumors, and bullying. Doug became a top-rated show and inspired merchandise, books, a live musical stage show, and a feature film.

The Wild Thornberrys

The Wild Thornberrys is an animated children's cartoon that premiered in 1998 and aired until 2004. The cartoon ran for five seasons and ninety-one episodes on Nickelodeon.

The cartoon portrays an American family of wildlife documentary filmmakers, including Nigel, Marianne, Debbie, and Eliza, who has the ability to communicate with animals. They travel the world in their ComVee, which is a recreational vehicle equipped with safety mechanisms to handle their journey.

The Yogi Bear Show

Yogi Bear is an animated cartoon series that debuted in 1961 and aired until 1962. The show had a two-year production run and a total of thirty-three episodes. Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo Bear live in Jellystone Park and can be seen stealing picnic baskets and hiding from Ranger Smith.

Yogi has a rather large appetite, and he enjoys the goodies he finds in the baskets he and Boo-Boo steal from park guests. Yogi also has a girlfriend named Cindy Bear.

SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron

SWAT Kats is an animated cartoon series that aired from 1993 until 1994 and takes place in the fictional metropolis of Megakat City. The city is populated by anthropomorphic felines that are known as kats.

The SWAT Kats are two pilots that fly a state-of-the-art fighter jet with weapons, and they often face villains. The show was the number one syndicated animated show in 1994, but sadly, the show was canceled because it was more violent than the other cartoons at the time.

Betty Boop

Betty Boop is an animated cartoon that aired from 1930 until 1939. Betty Boop originally appeared in the Talkartoon and Betty Boop film series before being featured in the ninety episodes of the Betty Boop series.

She was later featured in comic strips and merchandise as well. Betty was a caricature of a Jazz Age flapper and became one of the best-known and popular cartoon characters in the world. Betty Boop was voted one of the 100 Greatest Cartoons.

The Flintstones

The Flintstones is an animated cartoon series that aired from 1960 until 1966, and it was the first animated series to hold a prime-time slot on television. It actually first started as The Flagstones but became The Flintstones.

The series centers around a prehistoric family with modified modern advancements like foot-powered cars; it follows the activities of the Flintstones and their neighbors, the Rubbles. The show was ranked by TV Guide as the second-greatest TV cartoon of all time.

Recess

Recess is an animated cartoon series that aired from 1997 until 2001, with six seasons and sixty-five half-hour episodes. The cartoon revolves around six elementary school students and their interactions with other classmates and teachers.

The main characters are Vince LaSalle, Theodore Jasper, T.J. Detweiler, Ashley Spinelli, Mikey Blumberg, Gretchen Grundler, and Gus Griswald. The series was followed by several films, and the characters made an appearance in an episode of Lilo & Stitch: The Series.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an animated cartoon that aired from 1987 until 1996. The series is about four fictional superhero anthropomorphic turtle brothers that are trained in the ancient art of ninjutsu. The characters were originally created by comic book artists Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman.

The turtles, Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, and Donatello, live in the sewers of New York City, and they battle evil overlords, alien invaders, petty criminals, and mutated creatures. The franchise gained worldwide success and fame.

Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures

Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures is an animated cartoon series that aired from 1987 until 1989 and was one of the first Saturday morning cartoons on CBS to be broadcast in stereo. The series was a half-hour show that aired on Saturday mornings every week.

The cartoon's episodes did not always follow a particular formula and varied from superhero-type stories to parodies of shows. The animated cartoon was a large springboard for many cartoonists and animators who later became famous.

Tom And Jerry

Tom and Jerry is an animated cartoon series that was created in 1940 and aired until 1967. The main storyline is about the rivalry between Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse.

William Hanna and Joseph Barbera created one hundred and fourteen short films and won seven Academy Awards for Best Animated Short Film. Tom and Jerry was the highest-grossing animated short film series during that time.

The Jetsons

The Jetsons is an animated cartoon series that aired from 1962 through 1963 and then again from 1985 through 1987. The Jetson family lived in a version of a century in the future, along with elaborate robotic contraptions, aliens, whimsical inventions, and holograms.

The cartoon debuted as the first program broadcast in color on ABC, and the original series was twenty-four episodes. The cartoon aired on Saturday mornings, and there was a film released in 1990 called Jetsons: The Movie.

Care Bears

Care Bears is an animated cartoon series that only aired for one season in 1985. There were twenty-two episodes in the series but was then followed by several Care Bears films.

The Care Bears lived up in the clouds in a place called Care-a-Lot, and with the help of the Cousins and their Buddies, they would go around the world on missions in Caring. While doing their missions, they were trying to destroy the evil Professor Coldheart's plans. In 2007, there was a revival of the Care Bears called Care Bears: Adventures in Care-a-Lot.

Thundercats

Thundercats is an animated cartoon that premiered in 1985 and aired until 1989, then again in 2011 for one season. The cartoon featured a fictional group of cat-like humanoid aliens that lived on the planet Thundera.

Unfortunately, their planet died, and they were forced to flee and ended up on Third Earth. The main characters were Mumm-Ra, Cheetara, Lion-O, Panthro, Snarf, WilyKit, Jaga, Tygra, Pumyra, WilyKat, and Alluro.

The Smurfs

The Smurfs originally aired from 1981 until 1989, airing for two hundred and fifty-eight episodes. The cartoon was about the daily lives of little blue elves in the forest village. Sometimes they had to escape from the evil Gargamel, who tried to destroy their kind.

The main smurfs are Smurfette, Papa Smurf, Brainy Smurf, Gargamel and his cat Azrael, and Johan and his friend Peewit. The show was nominated for several Daytime Emmy Awards and won for Outstanding Children's Entertainment Series.

Gargoyles

Gargoyles is an animated cartoon series that premiered in 1994 and aired until 1997. The cartoon featured heroic nocturnal creatures known as the gargoyles who would turn to stone during the day and back to flesh and blood during the night.

They served as night protectors, and the show was Disney's most popular TV show at the time and inspired a huge following. Unfortunately, Gargoyles was canceled in 1997.

Animaniacs

Animaniacs is an animated cartoon that first aired in 1993 and for five seasons and ninety-nine episodes, ending in 1998. It is a variety show featuring a large cast of characters, and most of the episodes were composed of three short mini-episodes. Some of the characters were the Warner siblings, Ralph the Security Guard, Dr. Otto Scratchansniff, Pinky and the Brain, Slappy Squirrel, Skippy Squirrel, Buttons and Mindy, Chicken Boo, and Rita and Runt.

The series was produced by Steven Spielberg, and the series made parodies of television shows and films. Spielberg said, "Anamaniacs' humor of social commentary and irreverence were inspired by the Marx Brothers and Looney Tunes cartoons."

Pinky And The Brain

Pinky and the Brain is a 1990s classic cartoon from Warner Bros. that premiered in 1995 and aired until 1998. It was about two lab mice, one was a genius, and the other one was dumb.

The mice were determined on world domination, and the show explored new ground and took children's cartoons out of the realm of the cute and cuddly and into the more mature territory. The cartoon was Steven Spielberg's fourth animated television series. The characters first appeared in the series Animaniacs.

Darkwing Duck

Darkwing Duck is an animated superhero cartoon that aired from 1991 until 1993, running for three seasons and ninety-one episodes. Darkwing Duck is the superheroic alter-ego of ordinary suburban duck Drake Mallard.

He is aided in his adventures by his not-so-intelligent pilot sidekick, Launchpad McQuack. He was also assisted by his daughter Gosalyn. The show aired every week on Saturday mornings.

The Road Runner Show

The Road Runner Show is an animated cartoon that aired on Saturday morning from 1966 until 1969. The cartoon was produced by Warner Bros. Cartoons and ran for three seasons and twenty-six episodes.

CBS combined The Road Runner Show with The Bugs Bunny Show and made The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour. The show was later taken off because of its excessively aggressive scenes. Paul Julian voiced the Road Runner, Mel Blanc voiced Tweet, and June Foray voiced Granny.

Ren And Stimpy

Ren and Stimpy is an animated cartoon that aired from 1991 until 1996. The cartoon followed the adventures of Ren Hoek, an emotionally unstable and sociopathic Chihuahua, and Stimpy, a good-natured cat, and it ran for five seasons and fifty-two episodes.

It was one of Nickelodeon's first original animated series, and it was deemed controversial for its dark humor. Ren and Stimpy had an influence on the future of animation and opened the way for more adult-oriented shows like Beavis and Butt-Head.

Batman: The Animated Series

Batman: The Animated Series is a cartoon that captured the essence of Batman and Gotham City and aired from 1992 until 1995. The show was geared more towards young adults and had great stories, character development, and excellent action.

This series had a huge impact, and its tone, style, and characterizations were continued in a series of cartoons and comics known as the DC Animated Universe. It spawned later animated TV series, comic books, video games, and feature films.

The Tick

The Tick is an animated cartoon series that aired from 1994 until 1996, running for three seasons and thirty-six episodes. The Tick is a superhero that tried out at the National Super Institute in Reno, Nevada, where superheroes that pass get assigned to protect cities from crime.

He passed the tryouts and is assigned to The City, where Arthur becomes his sidekick. The Tick and Arthur protect The City from the bad guys with assistance from American Maid, Sewer Urchin, Die Fledermaus, and others. That series was nominated for several Annie Awards and Emmys, with winning two Annie Awards.

Cyberchase

Cyberchase is an animated cartoon series that aired from 2002 until 2010 but returned in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019. The story is about three children from Earth named Jackie, Inez, and Matt. Cyberspace is a digital world, and they were brought into it to protect the world from the villain hacker.

The kids problem-solve using basic math, wellness, and environmental science to prevent the hacker from taking over Cyberspace. There were a total of twelve seasons, but sadly, the show ended in 2019.

The Muppet Babies

The Muppet Babies is an animated cartoon series that aired from 1984 until 1991. It portrays the muppets as children living together in a nursery under the care of the nanny. The show ran for eight seasons and one hundred and seven episodes and was produced by Jim Henson Productions and Marvel Productions.

The babies' imaginary games turn into real scenes; for example, they find themselves aboard a pirate ship. However, when the situation becomes too serious, the scene dissolves, and they are back in the nursery. The main muppets were Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal, Scooter, Skeeter, and Rowlf the Dog.

TaleSpin

TaleSpin is an animated cartoon series that aired from 1990 until 1991, running for one season and sixty-five episodes. The cartoon is set in the Cape Suzette and lies in a large harbor enclosed by a high cliff wall, where the cleft in the wall is the only way in or out.

The characters are anthropomorphic animals, and the series centers on the adventures of Baloo the bear, a pilot, which often involves encounters with a gang of air pirates. Talespin was listed as the eighty-first best cartoon in the Top 100 Animated TV Shows by IGN.

Stanley

Stanley is an interactive animated cartoon series that aired from 2001 until 2004, running for three seasons and sixty-five episodes. Stanley teaches about issues preschool children face, including rules, growth, and dealing with others.

Each episode has an animal that helps explain the issue Stanley is dealing with. He often discusses his problems with his pet goldfish Dennis, his computer, or the Great Big Book of Everything. In 2002, Charles Shaughnessy won an award for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program.

PB&J Otter

PB&J Otter is an animated musical cartoon series that aired from 1998 until 2000, running for three seasons and sixty-five episodes. The story is about an Otter family that lives in the rural fishing community of Lake Hoohaw.

Most of the stories are about the Otter children, older brother Peanut, younger sister Jelly, and baby sister Butter, along with their neighbors and friends. In 2000, PB&J Otter was nominated for an Annie Award for Outstanding Music in an Animated Show.

Little Bear

Little Bear is an animated cartoon series in Canada that aired from 1995 until 2003, running for sixty-five episodes. The series is based on the Little Bear books written by Else Holmelund Minarik.

The story is set in the wilderness and follows Little Bear as he goes on exciting adventures and learns new things from his friends Duck, Emily, Cat, Hen, and Owl. Little Bear was later adapted into a live theatrical show, Little Bear: Winter Tales, video games, and films.

The Berenstain Bears

The Berenstain Bears is an animated cartoon series that was based on The Berenstain Bears books. The series aired from 2003 until 2005, running for three seasons and forty episodes.

The family includes Mama and Papa Bear, Brother Bear, Sister Bear, and Honey Bear, and together they learn about family roles and relationships. The series was meant to teach children life lessons. The family lived in a big treehouse in Bear Country.

Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers is an animated adventure cartoon series that aired from 1989 until 1990, running for three seasons and sixty-five episodes. Two chipmunks, Chip and Dale, start a detective agency called Rescue Rangers and include their friends Gadget Hackwrench, Zipper, and Monterey Jack.

They take on the crimes that are too small for the police to handle, so usually, crimes that involve other animals. However, they often find themselves up against the Mafia-style tabby cat Fat Cat and mad scientist Norton Nimnul. Chip 'n Dale was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Oustanding Animated Program, and IGN named it the sixtieth best in the Top 100 Animated TV Shows.

Inspector Gadget

Inspector Gadget is an animated science fiction cartoon series that aired from 1983 until 1986, running for two seasons and eighty-six episodes. It was the first animated series to be presented in stereo sound.

The storyline revolves around Inspector Gadget's adventures. He is a cyborg human with various bionic gadgets built into his body, and he is sent on missions to destroy Dr. Claw's plans. Gadget ends up being assisted by his niece Penny and his dog, Brain.
